FAQs

Getting Started.

How much does a pool cost?

Every pool is different, as it’s tailored to your space, design and selections. After an initial consultation, we provide a detailed quote based on your site, access, finishes and any additional features.

How long does it take to build?

On average, construction takes approximately 6–10 weeks. This can vary depending on weather, site conditions and the coordination of trades throughout the build.

What happens after I accept the quote?

Once your quote is accepted, we move into final design, engineering and approvals. From there, we schedule your build and guide you through each stage of construction.

Do I need council approval?

Yes, but don't worry... We take care of that!

Design & Customisation.

Can I customise the shape and size?

Yes. Every pool we build is fully customised to suit your space, lifestyle and preferences.

How do I choose colours and finishes?

We guide you through your selections, including tiles, coping and interior finishes, to ensure everything works together and suits your home. You can also visit The Design Room to assist with visualising combinations.

What’s the difference between light and dark interiors?

Lighter interiors often create a bright, clear blue water, while darker finishes give a deeper, more natural or resort-style look. These are all subject to the surroundings of the pool and amount of natural sunlight around the pool.

Can you match my home style?

Absolutely. We design pools to complement your home’s architecture and outdoor space.

Construction Process.

What are the stages of the build?

Typical stages include excavation, formwork, steel fixing, plumbing, concrete spray, tiling, *fencing, interior finish and final handover. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

*Fencing is organised by the customer directly with one of our highly recommended contractors.

Will I have access to the site during construction?

For safety reasons, access is limited during certain stages.

What happens if it rains?

Weather can impact timelines, particularly during excavation, tiling and pebblecrete stages. If delays occur, we reschedule works as quickly as possible.

Who manages the project?

Our team manages the process, coordinating trades and keeping your build on track. You, as the client, are responsible for fencing of the pool, prior to finishes. We will communicate the best timing of this stage with you.

Materials & Finishes

What is pebblecrete?

Pebblecrete is a durable interior finish made from natural aggregates. It provides a textured surface and plays a big role in the final water colour.

What tiles are best for the waterline?

Glass and ceramic tiles are both popular. Glass tiles offer a more premium, reflective finish, while ceramics provide a clean, classic look. For durability, we recommend waterline tiles as opposed to a complete pebblecrete finish.

What coping options are available?

Common options include travertine, limestone, porcelain or concrete. We help you select a finish that suits your style and performs well in outdoor conditions.

Are some finishes more durable than others?

Yes. We recommend materials that are proven to perform well in Australian conditions and suit your specific environment.

Water Systems.

What’s the difference between salt, magnesium and freshwater systems?

Salt chlorinated systems are reliable, low-maintenance, and highly durable. Magnesium systems offer a more premium feel, with added comfort benefits. Freshwater systems, such as the Naked system, provide a natural swimming experience similar to a freshwater creek. We will be with you every step of the way to help you select the best system for your budget, personal needs and preferences.

Do all pools contain chlorine? & What feels better on skin and eyes?
Yes — all swimming pools require some form of sanitisation to keep the water clean, safe, and free from bacteria. In most modern systems, this involves chlorine in some form.

Salt, magnesium, and freshwater systems are often referred to as “low chlorine” options. These systems use minerals or salts to naturally generate a very small amount of chlorine, rather than having it added manually. This process keeps the water balanced and hygienic without the strong smell, irritation, or harsh feel often associated with traditional chlorine pools.

For most swimmers, the chlorine in these systems is not noticeable. Instead, the water typically feels softer, gentler on the skin and eyes, and more comfortable to swim in.

We’re happy to talk you through the differences and help you choose the system that best suits your preferences, lifestyle, and budget.

Costs & Inclusions.

What’s included in the quote?
Your quote outlines all agreed inclusions, including the pool structure, finishes and standard equipment. We walk you through this in detail.

Are there any additional costs to be aware of?
Site conditions such as access, rock, water table, soil type or drainage can impact final costs if not known upfront.

Do you offer upgrades or additional features?
Yes. Options such as heating, lighting upgrades, swim jets, automatic top ups, automation and water features can be included to enhance your pool. We also offer a range of robotic cleaners which come highly recommended by ourselves as pool owners as well as our customers.

Site & Access.

Does access affect pricing?
Yes. Limited access may require additional equipment or labour, which can impact costs.

What if my block is sloped?
Sloping sites may require additional works such as retaining or engineering, which we assess during quoting.

Do I need retaining walls?
This depends on your site. If required, we will discuss suitable options with you prior to quoting.

What happens if rock is found?
If rock is encountered during excavation, additional costs may apply due to the need for specialised equipment.

Warranty & Support.

What warranty do you offer?

As per the QBCC requirement, we offer standard structural warranty of 6 years and 6 months. Some of our original pools are close to 40-years old and are still going strong!

What happens if something goes wrong?
Our team is here to assist. If any issues arise, we work with you to resolve them promptly.

After Completion.

Do you provide a handover demonstration?
Yes. We walk you through how everything works so you feel confident managing your pool.

Can you help with landscaping or surrounds?
We work with a number of great builders and landscapes we can highly recommend!

At Nautilus Pools, we build pools that can handle it all:  heatwaves, downpours, cyclones, a monsoon or dry spells. They're made tough, built to last, and ready for anything the Queensland weather throws at them.
